Baby Fence Lizards’ First Food

Filed under Growing Healthy Baby Food
These Western Fence lizards just came out of the incubator on July 14. This is them first experiencing actual food. You can already tell these guys are starting to have different personalities. The hatchlings are around 2″ long and will grow to be about 5″ long. This is including the tail. Babies should be kept in a large Kritter Keeper/Faunarium/Etc (The names are different, but the product is the same), with sheets of paper towel for their ground. Since they live in a rocky enviroment, natural rocks are perfect. Just be sure to clean them thoroughly. You will also need to get a hide for them. A simple cave from Petco or something will suffice. Heating is also necessary. For the babies in the Kritter Keeper, a simple run-of-the-mill human heating pad under the vivarium will do fine. But as they mature and you place them in an adult terrarium, you should get a reptile under-tank heat mat. But what is most important of all is that you need to get a UVB light. All diurnal lizards need a source of UVB or they will die. Putting the tank by a windowsill is no substitute; UVB cannot enter through materials such as glass or plastic. So go to your pet store and get a Desert 50 10.0 fluorescent UVB tube. They will also need a fixture to put the bulb in, naturally. Keep in mind: UVB bulbs begin to slowly wear out after 6 months. In addition to UVB, they will need a source of radiant heat as well as a supplementing amount of UVA. A Light & Heat bulb for reptiles will do. I use an …

It is important to eat smart and make healthy food choices to support your baby’s growth during pregnancy. Try to eat foods from the five food groups daily. On average a pregnant woman should eat 300 more calories per day when pregnant. That comes out to one extra snack per day. The extra calories may vary depending on what your weight is before you were pregnant. Be sure to watch your serving sizes. Foods high in sugar and fat don’t give your baby enough of what it needs to grow. LUCKY & LUCKIER MAY 25 2010 (DAY # 3) – RESCUED BABY SPARROWS.

Filed under Growing Healthy Baby Food
On Saturday, May 22nd 2010 we found 4 little baby sparrows under a wood pile that were abandoned. One baby had been apparently mauled by a cat, another was dead from starvation most likely, and the other 2 seemed barely alive. They were probably only a day old at the most and were completely bald and their eyes were still closed. I did some research on the internet to see how I could help them. I keep them in a dish lined with cotton batting, and cloth for cushion and softness. I set their “nest” on a heating pad and keep it on low. Just warm enough to make their nest cozy and warm but not cooking the little guys. I am also feeding them baby food from an eye dropper almost every hour on the hour (except for at night). I bought beef in broth baby food and mixed it with Fruit baby food so that they get their carbs and their protein. I water it down so that it is giving them the liquid that they need too. In the 3 days since we got them, they have really come a long way. They are much stronger and seem very healthy now. They sleep lots, eat lots, poop lots, and when they are awake, they chirp and try to move around. They are now opening their eyes and stretching their wings. They are also starting to grow some feathers. This video was taken this morning after they finished eating and they went back to sleep. They love cuddling up to each other. The twins as I call them are looking like they are going to make it. We have named them Lucky and Luckier. I will add more video as …
Return to Innocence Lisa Musick presents Your Healthy Vanity

YourHealthyVanity.com Hi, my name is Lisa Musick. Welcome to Your Healthy Vanity — a resource for practical and useful health and nutrition information. Did you know, by the year 2010, the very first members of the Baby Boomer generation will start turning 65 years old? The science and education available to this generation encourages many of us to take responsibility for our health and vitality. Today, it is estimated that fully 2 of the American public is overweight and 25% of those people are defined as clinically obese. Over 15 million men and women have low bone density due to poor diet and reliance on pharmaceutical drugs like antidepressants. It is estimated that 1 of 3 American adults has high blood pressure or hypertension. Having high blood pressure increases one’s chance for developing heart disease, a stroke, and other serious conditions. And most of us know at least 2 or 3 persons that have been affected by cancer. Just three years ago, I lost my mother to heart disease and 9 months later, lost my father to brain cancer. It was quite a wake-up call for me. I never thought they would die like that and each at age 74. Too young. Ok, so, there is good news. Many individuals are starting to be more proactive in their wellness. Your Healthy Vanity means feeling good AND looking good. Forget the botox, the nips and the tucks. Feeling good with the help of food education and supplementation, and being confident that you look good because you truly care about your …

WNYT-TV NBC Ch. 13 -Canajoharie ‘washed out’ by water, sewer bills

CANAJOHARIE – Fred Trauft’s business depends on water. Without it, none of the beautiful, colorful and healthy plants in his sprawling complex of greenhouses in the Village of Canajoharie would grow. “It’s a significant amount,” Traudt claims. “And it all adds up, yeah.” Traudt has already paid more for water, in just the first 10 months of htis year, than he did for all of last year. So far nearly 1 compared to a total of 3 in 2009. “The water is an expense that’s a concern for us,” says Traudt. Village leaders blame the increase on the departure of Beech Nut. Over the years the village took out millions of dollars in loans to make upgrades to its water and sewer treatment facilities so they could better accommodate the baby food manufacturer. Now Beech Nut is mostly gone from its century old factory and the remaining businesses and residents are footing the bills; not just to run the treatment plants but also to pay off the principle on the loans. “It’s enormous. If this happened in Schenectady, where you have 2500 homes, no problem. But we are so limited with 850 homes,” explains village mayor, Leigh Fuller. Beech Nut set up shop in Canajoharie very close to the time Fred Traudt’s grandfather began growing here. Now Beech Nut is 20 miles away, in the Town of Florida. And Fred Traudt is being forced to offset his rising costs by raising prices. “Hopefully not a real lot. It will depend on how things go over the winter,” Traudt says. Mayor Fuller and the Village …
